Australia Dairy Company – Traditional HK style breakfast

March 10, 2018 by Jennifer Che 2 Comments

Australia Dairy Company

Australia Dairy Company

This is post #48, part of my #50PostsIn50Days personal challenge to document my first 100 days in Hong Kong. Other posts in this series may be found at the bottom of the original post.

Ask anybody where is the best place to get an authentic, iconic, Hong Kong breakfast, and you’re bound to hear Australia Dairy Company in Jordan. Australia Dairy Company is a typical Hong Kong style cha chaan teng located only minutes from the Jordan MTR station. Their most famous dish is anything made with their scrambled eggs, such as the scrambled egg sandwich, scrambled egg toast, or just straight up scrambled eggs.

You can also order other typical cha chaan teng fare here, such as macaroni soup with ham, steamed milk pudding, and Hong Kong style milk tea.

The scrambled eggs are HEAVENLY. They are luxuriously soft, full of flavor, and absolutely addictively. I can see why this place is so famous for this one dish.

We ordered both the sandwich and the toast, but frankly speaking, they aren’t all that different.

I thought the Hong Kong milk tea was only OK, and I definitely much prefer the signature version from Lan Fong Yuen. I felt this one was too watery and I much prefer the strongly flavored tea from La Fong Yuen.

The steamed milk pudding looked pretty good and many people were ordering them. However, I had heard that Yee Shun Milk Company (one of my favorite places!) makes a better version. Since I was showing an out-of-town friend around, I figured it made more sense for us to head over there (only a couple minutes’ walk away) for our sweet dessert fix.

The food is great, but the atmosphere is DEFINITELY hectic. There almost always seems to be a line. I arrived around 11:30AM and still had to wait in a 7-8 person line. Don’t worry, though, because the line moves FAST. I waited less than 10 minutes before I was seated. As soon as we were seated, we started to feel a bit of pressure from the craziness of the fast moving environment.

What do we order?

Shoot, we can’t read the menu very well – ha ha, it’s all in Chinese.

Let’s look around and see what everyone else is ordering.

Eventually, we settled on getting some variations of the scrambled eggs. The food came SO FAST (like, less than a minute!). I swear it took us longer to decide what to order than it took for us to receive our order. The place is a like a well-oiled machine.

Soon after we finished our egg sandwiches, we decided to head over to Yee Shun Milk Company for dessert. That place was much, much quieter and both of us almost breathed a sigh of relief after sitting down at Yee Shun to enjoy our milk pudding desserts.

In short, the scrambled eggs are amazing at Australia Dairy Company and definitely worth trying. If you want to relax, though, I would recommend heading somewhere else afterwards!

Welcome to HK. One of the best things to eat in Cha chan teng is corned beef + egg sandwich (toasted). Original fusion food!
