SohoFama Hong Kong

Sohofama Hong Kong

Sohofama Hong Kong

I love the concept behind Sohofama, the joint collaboration between G.O.D. (Hong Kong’s lifestyle brand Goods of Desire) and Locofama, a Sai Yin Poon restaurant focused on urban farming and locally sourced ingredients.

I don’t necessarily completely believe all foods should be sourced as locally as possible (it’s just not that efficient on a grander scale). However, I do like the restaurant’s focus on trying to select the best ingredients (organic if possible) and preparing comfort Chinese dishes that are healthy and delicious without using additives, preservatives, or MSG.

Sohofama Hong Kong is located on the ground floor of the trendy artsy PMQ shopping area in Central and even has its own hydroponic urban garden.

I came here on a whim with Joan from Hungry in Taipei, who was visiting Hong Kong and Macau at the time. We were looking for a good, quiet place to enjoy good food and conversation. This place had no wait, had a pleasant environment, and was available on a Saturday evening around 8PM.

We started with a cold dish of octopus with Sichuan sauce, which was quite tasty with a bit of a kick.

The Shanghai xiao long bao, which they said was a signature dish, was made with organic US pork and was pretty solid with a nice pork flavor.

Joan had seen this beautiful Fried Chicken on the restaurant’s Instagram feed and inquired specifically about it when we arrived. It was tender and had good flavor.
Yeung Chow Fried Rice with organic Spanish chorizo was fine, but wasn’t particularly memorable.

Stir fried greens were fresh and simple.

Sohofama Hong Kong – General Thoughts

Sohofama has a nice, casual vibe with its outdoor wooden benches, urban garden, and trendy location in PMQ. The food is enjoyable, the location is convenient, and the environment is pleasant. Portion sizes aren’t huge, so it’s worth ordering a few more dishes. Though none of the dishes blew me away (there are better versions of most of those dishes elsewhere in Hong Kong), I still appreciated having a pleasant, quiet place for us to chat and catch up.
