Ming Court Hong Kong - Excellent 1-Michelin starred Cantonese food in Mongkok

Ming Court is a high-end Cantonese restaurant inside the Cordis Hotel in Mongkok. The restaurant has been serving refined Cantonese food for over a decade, maintaining its Michelin star since 2009. The theme is the Ming Dynasty, and the dining room is adorned with pottery and decor from the era.

Though it's three-Michelin starred sister T'ang Court is more famous, Ming Court still offers up excellent Cantonese cuisine in an elegant setting.

We chose Ming Court precisely because we needed a quiet but pleasant place to have lunch in the Mongkok neighborhood.

It worked out perfectly. The space was pleasant, the service was good, and we really enjoyed the food.

Row 3: black pepper pan-seared ox tongue, white king oyster mushroom, and cucumbers with XO sauce

Ming Court is actually known for its wine selection. It has a beautiful "Ming Cellar" that stocks over 400 different labels from 20 different countries.

It also has a healthy vegetable section and an unusually larger vegetarian section.

General Thoughts - Ming Court Hong Kong

To be honest, I think we have only scratched the surface of this restaurant. Since it was lunchtime, we didn't have wine nor many of the more signature dishes. Executive Chef Li Yuet-Faat offers some creative modern interpretations of Cantonese food amongst the rest of the pretty traditional Cantonese menu.

It's a good place to entertain out of town guests. The restaurant offers most of the classic high end Cantonese fare (e.g., abalone, fish maw, sea cucumber, bird's nest, live fish, BBQ roast pork, suckling pig, and the like) together with a few modern dishes incorporating ingredients like foie gras, M9 Wagyu beef, and Iberico pork.
