    Qin Yuan Chun 沁園春Taichung Taiwan

    Qin Yuan Chun 沁園春Taichung Taiwan

After the pandemic, I finally made my way out to Taiwan the summer of 2023. It was a special family reunion, with my Mom and sister's family flying out from the US meeting up with our relatives in Taiwan whom we hadn't seen for years.

My uncle in Taichung knew I was a foodie so he wanted to pick a special place to treat the whole family. He chose Qin Yuan Chun (沁園春), a well-established restaurant that has been open for more than 70 years. Qin Yuan Chun specializes in Shanghainese food, particularly from the Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions.

The restaurant holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand status, and has many loyal long-time regulars. They recommend coming early if you want to avoid the lines.

We were a large table of eight (yay relatives!), so we got to try a lot of dishes!

Excellent pork aspic with perfect texture and really nice flavors!

My favorite dish was this velvelty soft pan fried tofu in a light broth with chilis. It was so good, we actually ordered a second bowl!

This pork belly was ridiculously soft and melt-in-your-mouth. Sooo good.

    General Thoughts

The food was indeed excellent. The kids especially loved the deep fried steamed buns with condensed milk (yum!). I personally loved the delicate tofu dish and just couldn't get enough of it! The pork belly was also amazing.

All of the food was excellent plus reasonably priced. I'd highly recommend going with a larger group so you can try as many dishes as possible! I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a place to eat in Taichung.
