    Kytaly Hong Kong

    Kytaly Hong Kong

    Wow. Just wow.

I didn’t expect to love the flavor of the crust so much, but the pizza from Kytaly blew my mind and I fell in love. The dough has phenomenal amounts of flavor and the chewy texture is oh-so good.

In my mind there is no contest. This is certainly the best pizza in Hong Kong, and arguably the best pizza I've ever had (and I've had my fair share of good pizzas).

Kytaly is an Italian restaurant originally from Geneva that opened its second location in Hong Kong. The mastermind behind Kytaly, Franco Pepe, is well recognized as one of the best pizza makers in the world. His restaurant in Italy, Pepe in Grani, was ranked the Top Pizza in the 50 Top Pizza Awards in 2018.

    The Pizza

One of my favorite pizzas that he makes, the Margherita Sbagliata, was crowned Best Pizza in the World from 2016-2018. It's unique in that Chef Pepe adds the tomato sauce after the pizza is baked in the super hot oven. The tomato sauce is cooked separately at low temperatures. This method prevents the more delicate flavors in the ultra-ripe tomatoes from being destroyed by the hot oven.

The crust is the best part. It's chewy, so flavorful, and utterly addictive. It has the perfect amount of char. It really is my favorite part of the pizza and I actually looked forward to "arriving" at the crust in every slice, where I simply enjoy the flavors and textures of the unadulterated crust.

    The Space

There's a nice outdoor balcony that's a fun place to eat. High end Devialet speakers are located throughout the restaurant, and they do pump the music a bit. It's not quiet by any means, though it's probably OK for most people. (I personally wished the volume was just a tad a lower).

The pizza is worth it. Yes, it's expensive, and prices are probably higher than any pizza price you've ever paid. Pizzas average HKD300 (close to USD$40!) each, and you'll want to order at least two so that you can try different flavors.

We ordered two pizzas and weren't able to finish, which was perfectly OK because these heat up beautifully the next day on the pan.

Love this place and definitely can't wait to go back!
