    Yee Shun Milk Company - Double Skin Milk Pudding {双皮奶}

    This is one of many posts that are part of the series Jen's Guide - Best Places to Eat in Hong Kong for Visitors

    I've dreamed of trying this dessert again for years.

    I first experienced double-skinned milk pudding, or shuang pi nai (双皮奶), in Beijing back in 2010. I was wandering the streets of Beijing with an expat friend who was living there at the time. He introduced me to this delicate, creamy Cantonese dessert that's made by steaming milk, egg whites, and sugar.

    I was totally hooked.

    Sadly, it would be another seven years before I would have the chance to taste this magical pudding again. Last month, a friend mentioned a place in Hong Kong that specializes in this Cantonese dessert.

    Suddenly, all the memories from China flooded back. I had to go try this to see if it was as good as I remembered.

    We visited Yee Shun Milk Company in Jordan, This is by far the most famous place in Hong Kong for double skin milk pudding. I am happy to report that Yee Shun Milk Company's version is phenomenal, and double skin milk is just as good as I remembered it.

    Definitely come try this!

    Yeeshun Milk Company offers many pudding options on their menu. We tried the white pudding (made with egg whites only), and the yellow one, which also includes egg yolks.

    You can also order the pudding hot or cold, eat-in or take-out. You can add all different types of toppings, like lotus nuts, red bean, ginger juice, or coffee.

    I totally fell in love with the simple white version of the milk pudding. It tasted so pure, with the simple fresh taste of milk. I can't describe it, but I loved it.

    The version with topping (I tried red bean) was fine, but I felt that the topping took away from the pure enjoyment of the milk's sweet, pure, natural flavor.

    Yee Shun Milk Company is a full-fledged cha chaang taang and therefore you can order other classics like Hong Kong milk tea, coffee/milk tea, and a wide variety of breakfast items. We enjoyed a traditional French Toast (which was awesome), and had some iced Hong Kong milk tea.

    The first time we came, we happened to be there during a huge Chinese holiday. As a result, the lines were ridiculously long. If you don't feel like waiting in line, you can always walk into the store and order take-out straight from the counter. That's what we did the first time and we saved ourselves a lot of time.

    Sure, the take-out version isn't as pretty (they basically dump the pre-molded custard into a styrofoam container), but it's still equally good.

    The second time we went on a normal weekday and it was fine. We didn't have to wait, and we had a perfectly pleasant eat-in breakfast. The workers are really friendly (even when the place was mobbed).

    Definitely try to come to this place if you can. This pudding is really special and is probably one of my all-time favorite desserts in Hong Kong (!).
