    We have always been fans of Vietnamese food. Bryan grew up going to church near Little Saigon in Westminster, California, so he was quite familiar with authentic Vietnamese food his whole life. Hong Kong is only an hour flight from Vietnam, so it seems natural that there would be a lot of good Vietnamese food in Hong Kong.

    One popular Vietnamese Pho restaurant we discovered in our Wan Chai neighborhood is Brass Spoon, a casual pho restaurant that emphasizes premium ingredients, no use of MSG, and and clean, light flavors. The restaurant has received Michelin's Bib Gourmand status, a designation given to restaurants who have "exceptionally good food at moderate prices."

    We lined up on a Saturday around 12:30PM and waited about 5-10 min before being seated.

    The menu is basically a sheet of paper with various options for your Pho. You can choose your meat type, noodle type, and how much beef oil you wanted. I picked "standard" amount of beef oil. All diners eat with brass spoons, of course.

    You can add extra herbs, such as coriander (which Bryan loves), onions, or scallions. Bryan chose to added extra Vietnamese sausage (+10 HKD).

    On the side, we also chose to have some Steamed Rolls (Banh Cuon) HKD55, which were fun to try.

    We opted for the Premium Raw Beef (HKD 125). The beef was reasonably "raw" as promised, and the ingredients were fresh and of high quality. I found the broth to be quite bright, almost tart and a bit sweet. The overall flavor profile was light, not a deep, rich, beefy flavor.

    Brass Spoon Hong Kong - General Thoughts

    All in all, this is a modern, friendly place to enjoy a nice, light bowl of Vietnamese Pho. The atmosphere is pleasant, the location is good, and the food is simple but enjoyable. We wished the broth had more depth and flavor, and that the noodles had just a bit more "bite" to them. Perhaps we aren't as used to the brighter, sweeter style of broth. I do appreciate the use of quality ingredients and no MSG. I think I would come here again if I felt like eating something reasonably light and healthy.
