Boulette Larder (Ferry Building) San Francisco

We got the notice after we checked into our hotel. Announcement: there’s going to a St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday morning, passing right in front of the hotel, and therefore Market Street will be closed.

We had originally planned on driving up to Napa from San Francisco in the morning.

“Let’s stay in SF and drive out after the parade is over . . “ Bryan suggested.

So, sort of at the last minute, we had to figure out what to do for lunch. We didn’t want to drive, were curious to see the parade, and wanted to book something in case the area became very crowded.

Boulette Larder, one of the few restaurants at the Ferry Building, seemed like a good option.

We walked out onto Market Street and got to the parade both before lunch and after. It was really exciting to see the Irish spirit, green outfits everywhere . . . . It reminded me of Boston, and I even wore my Boston shirt that day.

After watching the parade for awhile, we walked to the Ferry Building and had a nice, simple pizza lunch at Boulette Larder.

The thin crust individual sized pizzas were tasty, and the Caesar Salad was fine as well. Nothing perhaps to write home about, but all very good and serviceable, meeting our needs at the time. We arrived early so the place wasn’t that crowded.

The Ferry Building was pretty packed though (probably due to the parade), but most people seemed to be choosing more casual lunches, such as grabbing an empanada or sandwich from one of the many eateries in the Ferry Building.

The Other Restaurant: Hog Island Oyster

Hog Island Oyster is one of the other sit down restaurants in the Ferry Building. However, it does not take reservations and since we were short on time, we didn’t want to risk waiting in line.

All in all, Boulette Larder was perfect for our needs. Afterwards, we explored the Ferry Building, picked up Blue Bottle coffees, and bought some local chocolates from Dandelion Chocolates and Recchiuti to take back to Hong Kong as gifts.
