Balinese Home Cooking is a restaurant located inside a small, traditional Balinese village called Payogan. Approximately 3km north-west of Ubud Palace, it was a short drive for us to come here by car.
Before actually entering the restaurant to eat, we briefly walked around the village and saw some locals just enjoying their every day life.
Balinese Home Cooking - the restaurant
I believe this is the kitchen for Balinese Home Cooking?
A closer look . . .
The dining area is quite pleasant, with a partially opened wall so you feel like you are dining outside even in you're partly inside. We started with some raw crudite, hard boiled eggs, and shrimp chips.
They also gave us some free root vegetable chips to snack on.
The complex flavors of the food was so refreshing after multiple Western style meals. I loved this chicken soup, which chock full of fragrant herbs and brightened by lime juice.
We decide to share two dishes. One was a curry dish, which was great.
The hotel recommended this place, and I think it's a good recommendation. The environment is pleasant, the kitchen is very clean, and the food is delicious. Perhaps that's why it seemed like most of the diners were actually tourists. For those who might not be ready to "brave it" at an actual night market, this is a nice, "gentler" way to enjoy some local Balinese food.
