Sometimes I reminisce about those few months when I lived at an apartment right on top of Harbour City. At the time, I don't think I fully appreciated the insane access I had to restaurants I could reach without even going outside.
Harbour City, including Ocean Centre and Ocean Terminal, continue to add new restaurants at a rapid pace. One of the many new places that opened this past year is Tsukado Nojo, a well known healthy "beauty" hot pot (more on that later) chain with over 150 locations in Japan.
The restaurant is originally from Miyazaki, Japan and serves up food from the Kyushu region of Japan. Tsukado Nojo Hong Kong's location at Ocean Terminal provides it with fantastic views of Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island.
I bet this is a great place to watch the nightly 8pm light show.
Their signature hot pot is the Bijin Nabe Sukiyaki or "beauty hot pot". "Bijin" means a beautiful person. The hot pot base is a collagen rich golden jidori chicken broth made with free range chickens raised in Mitazaki in Japan. The broth is extremely creamy and high in collagen because it is cooked for eight hours. In fact, when they first bring the "broth" over to you, it comes as a solid bowl-shaped block, which then melts quickly as it's heated in the nabe pot.
It's called "beauty" hot pot because the collagen-rich broth is good for the skin and detoxifying the body.
On top of the rich broth, the meal also includes a colorful assortment of vegetables, fish paste, and thin slices of beef.
I love the emphasis on fresh, colorful farm-to-table ingredients.
We also chose to have noodles in our hot pot.
They also have a lot of non-hotpot options, such as these Bijin Fresh Spring Rolls, which are filled with tuna, Japanese mountain yam, and colorful fresh vegetables.
They are refreshing, light, and healthy.
We also tried a Japanese omelet, which was tasty.
In fact, Tsukado Nojo is a full-on izakaya and you don't have to get hot pot every time. If I were to come back, I would love to try some of their other offerings, such as their grilled or fried chicken, sushi and sashimi, ramen, yakisoba, and Japanese salads.
General Thoughts: Tsukado Nojo Hong Kong
I love the concept of this place. All the food I had felt so clean, restorative, and healthy. The flavors are lighter but still really good in a different way. Ingredients are fresh, the service is good, and the side dishes are tasty.
The views are lovely and the overall ambiance is really pleasant. Bryan did say he prefers Chinese hot pot to this Japanese style hot pot any day (he finds Chinese-style much more flavorful!). I love Chinese hot pot, but I really appreciate the lighter Japanese style as well. Honestly speaking, there are many days when I crave eating something really light and healthy.
Plus, this one's supposed to give me amazing skin and overall beauty, right? 😉
