Sola Soho London - Theatre Tasting Menu

Published: Aug 7, 2025 by Jennifer Che

    Sola Soho London

I love a good deal (who doesn't?), so I was thrilled to find out So La Soho in London had a theatre special tasting menu for only GBP 99. Considering how expensive everything in London is, this is truly a steal. When you see how elegant the whole meal is, you'll want to come and enjoy the theatre special too. Heck, we didn't even watch a show that night (though a few days later we would indeed see TWO shows! Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and The Totoro Show.)

I had dined at So La Soho back in 2023 and I loved it. Part California, part-Japanese, So La Soho in London is supposedly the only Michelin-starred American restaurant outside of the US.

Going along the theatre theme (yes, I must use British spelling for London restaurants!), the meal comes in three "Acts" (how cute!)

    Act I

    Sola Soho London
Late season gazpacho with cucumber, miso, and Picual oil
    Sola Soho London
Deviled Egg “since day 1” filled with smoked sturgeon, vinegar, gochujang.
    Sola Soho London
Vodka cured salmon “roulade” with wasabi, sweet potato, and escabeche
    Sola Soho London
    Sola Soho London
Sucking Pig with shiso, jasmine foam, pickled apple

    Act II

    Sola Soho London
“Memories of Kyoto” with hamachi sashimi (two ways), roasted baby leek, pickled shimeji, and kinako
    Sola Soho London
    Langoustine “nabemono” flambee’d in whiskey
    Sola Soho London
Wild mushroom "gyoza" with ginger dashi

    ACT III

    Sola Soho London
"Shades of Crimson" included a beautifully seared breast of Mieral duck with cherry sorbet, beetroot "petals", and red kale.

    A Pivot, and a Surprise

It's hard to maintain an element of surprise in a meal if there are other diners around you having the same tasting menu. In our case, we were "behind" the table next to us, so we could get a preview of the next course by glancing over at their table from time to time.

For the dessert finale (called Signature So La chocolate cake “a la minute”), we watched the server roll up a cart. She began an elaborate show, adding ingredients to a pan, stirring the contents gently, lighting a fire, before putting on the lid.

I won't ruin the surprise, but there was a fun surprise at the end of the whole "show." Unfortunately, since we were watching from the side, we saw the whole trick! We even joked to the server, "how are you going to surprise us now?"

Watch the video and you'll see we got a double surprise!

This is the finale . . . a lovely caviar topped chocolate bite of heaven.

    So La Soho in London

We really, really enjoyed our meal there. The service was super friendly and the overall vibe felt relaxed and fun on a theater weeknight. The tasting menu is truly an insanely good deal. Perhaps the dollar being super strong against the pound at the time made it feel like an even better value. I felt like they didn't skimp on quality or ingredients for the theater tasting menu.

I would totally come here for the theater tasting menu before or after watching a show. I think we dined here around 8:30PM, basically eating with the after-show crowd.
