Cole's Chop House is a well known, storied steakhouse in Napa that serves high quality cuts of dry-aged Prime steaks, seafood, and other classic steakhouse sides and desserts. We were in Napa with several people from China, so it seemed like a fitting place to introduce them to good old “American” food (including American sized portions!).
Classic Rockefeller Oyster

A classic Oysters Rockefeller ($18.00) made with “Roland Henin’s Recipe” was juicy, sumptuous, and tasty. Wild mushroom crostini made with red wine reduction and truffle oil was nicely charred and also enjoyable.
HUGE Sides . . .

Portions sizes were big. Steakhouse classics like Cole’s Chop House Caesar ($16.00) made with a creamy garlic and boquerones anchovy dressing, Creamed Spinach, Brussels Sprouts (roasted with bacon, shallots, garlic and brown butter), and the very impressive “Chop House Hash Browns” were perfect for sharing.

Dry Aged T-Bone Steak

Bryan and I shared a 32 ounce 21 Day Dry-Aged Porterhouse Steak - For Two to Share ($150.00). It was good, cooked a nice “rare” and possessing some dry aged funk.
The place is popular and booking is probably highly advised. The walls are adorned with many storied black and white photos of past (presumably) celebrities who have visited the restaurant. The ambiance is lively and laid back. Service was professional and prompt.

I can see why a classic place like this has such staying power. Even though I probably wouldn’t come out to Napa just to eat food like this (most cities have excellent steak houses that are similar), it’s certainly nice for local residents to have a place like this. Additionally, if you are really wanting to enjoy some good Napa cabs, perhaps a steakhouse is indeed the perfect place to eat food that pairs exceptionally well with the local wine.
