Classified Hong Kong - Our first time trying an Impossible Meat Burger

    Published: Dec 13, 2020 · Modified: Dec 30, 2020 by Jennifer Che

    Classified Hong Kong

Classified is a casual, trendy coffee shop - wine bar - bakery - cheese shop - cafe serving all day breakfast and an all day menu. They call themselves "neighborhood cafe workspaces" and certainly have the type of ambiance in which I wouldn't mind hanging out and working for several hours.

Classified has multiple locations throughout Hong Kong and typically aims to integrate itself into a neighborhood (rather than set up inside of a mall).

We were drawn to Classified in the early days of Impossible Meats because we were really curious about the Impossible 2.0 burger made with the second generation Impossible meat, which supposedly got rave reviews.

    Impossible 2.0 Burger

Impossible Meat is a plant based meat substitute. Impossible meat achieves a "meatier" like taste by producing heme (iron-like molecule) by fermenting yeast. The first generation product did reasonably well, though most people (us included) thought it still didn't work super well in a burger, which relies too much on the "beefy" flavor of meat.

Hong Kong has been the first international market for Impossible Meats products, so it was exciting to be able to access some of these items so early.

This second generation, Impossible 2.0, was definitely improved and made a pretty tasty burger, though it still doesn't taste the same as a beef burger.

"It taste like meat" Bryan quipped, " though not necessarily beef."

For your serious burger lovers, it's probably not a substitute. However, if you're trying to cut down on red meat and crave a burger, I think it's pretty good.

    Impossible 2.0 Poutine

We tried some poutine as well, which was pretty tasty. Poutine in general relies less on the "beefiness" of beef, and therefore it was perfectly fine to eat.

All in all, it was a fun little excursion. Better yet, we were able to discover a cool new cafe that seemed like a fun place to visit again.
