Bali: Nungnung Waterfall and the Ayung River

Published: Sep 11, 2024 by Jennifer Che

On Day 2 of our private tour, we visited Nungnung Waterfall. It is about 1 to 1.5 hours away from Ubud. The entire excursion took 4 hours and cost about USD$200 for 2 people.

Nestled about 900 meters above sea level in the village of Nungnung, Nungnung Waterfall cascades from a height of approximately 50 meters into a small pool below, surrounded by dense tropical vegetation.

The journey to Nungnung Falls is an adventure in itself, involving a descent down hundreds of steps to arrive at the river's edge.

    Swimming with the Waterfall

We brought a change of clothing so that we could play in this natural pool right at the foot of the waterfall.

Because this waterfall is a bit further away from Ubud city center (and the fact that you have to hike down so many steps!), there are certainly a lot less tourists here than at some of the closer waterfalls. It was almost like we had our own private waterfall pool!

Having a tour guide is nice, because he could watch our stuff and even take photos of us!

White Water Rafting in the Ayung River

Finally, our last half day excursion was white water rafting down the Ayung River! What can I say, white water rafting is just a lot of fun and quite exciting. We even saw some stone carvings in the rocks along the river, which was really cool.

It was wet (and bumpy!) during the actual rafting, so I don't have any photos from that!
