hEAT is a grill focused restaurant located high up on the 23rd floor of QRE Plaza in Wan Chai. Despite it being really close to our apartment, we had never heard of it. We discovered the restaurant through Eatigo, an app that gives discounts for last minute reservations.
We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and really enjoyed a good dry aged steak together with some tasty sides.
The restaurant cooks its meat using a Josper, a unique combination of a charcoal grill and an oven. Steaks are dry aged for 60+ days. The focus is the grill, and the menu features inspiration from a variety of different cuisines, including Italian, Greek, Japanese, Spanish, French, and Chinese.
We started with the bread grilled in the Josper Grill (HKD33), which we ate with olive oil or garlic.
Seasonal clams sautéed clams in lemongrass and chili (HKD124) was tasty though rich.
Grilled langoustines from Scandinavian (HKD350 for 300g) came with aioli and black garlic mayo. They were excellent. The langoustines were sweet and had a nice smoky char from the grill.
Limousine Ribeye beef (HKD260 per 100g) consisted of the Chef's best selection of meat, which was from France. The beef was dry aged for 60+ days and the aged meat had notes of blue cheese and nuts. It was delicious and they did a good job of cooking it rare.
Baby potatoes grilled over charcoal with Sichuan sauce (HKD50) was simple but tasty.
I absolutely loved the Szechuan Sautéed Vegetable Assortment (HKD46), which had a lovely smoky "wok" flavor. I wished the portion size were bigger, and even considered ordering two so that we could each have one.
General Thoughts - hEAT Wan Chai
The Josper grill does an excellent job of grilling up all sorts of different types of food at hEAT. We really enjoyed the steak, the langoustines, and the vegetables. In general, I think you can't go wrong with anything that is grilled. Portion sizes tend towards the smaller side, so the meal ends up being a bit on the pricier side.
The restaurant is on the 23rd floor, so if you score a seat at the window, you can get a nice view of Wan Chai. All in all, it's a nice option to have in the neighborhood.
